Hello Kate and everyone in INN333. I am very much looking forward to this subject after enjoying Information Retrieval in Term 1. What can I tell you about myself? I am a serial student. After finishing a PhD a few years ago I swore that was it but here I find myself enrolled in this LIS degree. I currently live in Bundaberg where I lecture with CQU’s university preparatory program teaching Academic Essay writing to adults returning to education. In my part time I teach the piano, am involved in community music activities. I also am currently in the middle of a two year research fellowship to continue my writing on television studies. I am a big TV comedy fan. BIG. Favourite programs of all time…don’t get me started but if I had to narrow it to just one (which we all know is impossible) it would have to be Seinfeld. I am a regular twitterer and am starting to use Google+ instead of Facebook. Feel free to look me up on either of those networks.

Welcome Wendy. I’m sure there are more than a few serial students amongst us! Maybe you can share a few PhD tips with me this semester… 😉
oooh PhD tips…. that’s a tricky one. Looking back there were both good and bad times through the PhD. Ultimately, to get mine finished while I was working full time I used to get up every morning at 5 and write for two hours. That way I felt good about the rest of the day because I had achieved something. Anything after that was a bonus. I am not a late night person (well for writing anyway!) so this worked well for me. It has left me with a love of sleeping in whenever I can though!

I’m a newbie to QUT though had been on the study trip about 10 yrs ago – so its all grey matter currently.

Hi Fiona…yes it seems from the lecture that everyone’s grey matter is going to get a workout. I am looking forward to being less technologically challenged by the end of the semester 🙂

Hi Wendy! What kind of community music activites are you involved in?
My regular thing is accompanist for a choir here in Bundaberg – the Orpheus Singers. I also get involved with the local theatre when they do a musical – playing for rehearsals and shows Although I haven’t done one for a year or two. For the last ten years I have coordinated the Music Eisteddfod. I accompany kids for AMEB exams and teach about a dozen piano students. At the moment I am involved in a new project as accompanist for rehearsals of The Crushing: A Gothic Opera written by Peter Rankine who lives here in Bundaberg. 🙂 There’s always something happening…!
